Diejenigen, die häufiger mal die Frage umtreibt, was einen Menschen zum Verbrecher macht bzw. welches Motiv und welcher psychischer Hintergrund hinter einem Verbrechen steckt, können getrost zu dieser Lektüre greifen. Ähnlich wie sein Kollege John Douglas, greift der Autor Roy Hazelwood auf langjährige Erfahrung als FBI Profiler zurück und nutzt wahre Verbrechen, um die Unterschiede in der Tatbegehung und die daraus zu ziehenden Rückschlüsse auf die Täterpersönlichkeit aufzuzeigen. In den ersten Kapiteln geht es rein um sexuell motivierte Verbrechen. Zum Schluss schließen sich einige Kapitel an, in denen es um Linkage Analysis, d.h. um die Frage, ob mehrere unterschiedliche Taten zum selben Täter gehören, um Equivocal deaths, d.h. die Feststellung, ob ein Todesfall Mord, Selbstmord oder ein Unfall war und um Mord aus Rache geht. Insgesamt würde ich das Buch denjenigen, die sich im Weitestens Sinne für Profiling interessieren, ans Herz legen.

As with "The Evil That Men Do", Roy Hazelwood and Stephen Michaud deliver a fascinating and interesting account of some of the cases Hazelwood investigated as an FBI Profiler. Not only does this book offer great insight into the investigation process and the criminal mind (in this case, predominantly that of the sexual offender), but it also gives us a few tidbits out of Hazelwood's personal life.But caution! Do not read this book if you're looking for a thrilling true crime novel. "Dark Dreams" is mostly an account of Hazelwood's working life, meaning that unless you are interested in criminal profiling (and esp. sexual crimes), you might find it very uninteresting, to say the least.

"Dark Dreams" by Roy Hazelwood and Stephen Michaud is a brilliantly written book that is both interesting and fascinating although many things contained in it are creepy or just gross. It is probably one of the best books I have read this year and was impossible to put down.
